It was pouring, thunder echoing around the cave. A flash of lighting lit the sky. The small girl shivering in the cold, damp cave knew she could stop only for a moment, or they would most certainly find her. Her dress felt like it weighed a ton, her bow had fallen out long ago, and she was soaked to the bone. She wore no shoes, and her feet were red and rough. Yet she did not regret running. She had no desire to live a pampered life.
She peered through the trees, and found she could still see the top-most tower of the castle. Though it was some comfort to see her home, she knew she had not run far enough. She stood up. If she did not move soon, they would surely find her.
She crept slowly out of the cave, her glossy black hair already whipping in the wind. She looked around for the soldiers that had followed her, still covered by the shadows. She didn't see anything, but she knew enough to know that not seeing anything didn't necessarily mean that nothing was there. She walked out, deciding that there weren't any soldiers (they were far to noisy). The forest was cold and not very welcoming. It wasn't as she had read forests to be at night. There weren't any beady yellow eyes staring at her for one, and this forest didn't happen to be as dense as others had been written to be. All and all, It would have been nice, if she wasn't being hunted.
She saw another flash of lighting and heard a large crack. She turned around as she started to smell the smoke. The fallen tree was going to cause a fire.
Suddenly everything was ablaze. The girl was sweating hard, and knew she would not be able to breathe for much longer. She was trapped in the fire. A small white hand suddenly came out of the blaze, covered her mouth and pulled her out. The hand, now accompanied by another, pushed her to the side of a tree. "You ARE just as they say, Snow white." She glared at him, "Your going to take me back aren't you." "Well, that was the plan." a boy, 14 maybe stepped out of the shadows, "but I know you don't wan't to go back. So I shall tell the Queen you have died, that I saw you myself be consumed by a wolf." "Why would you do such a thing? Why not return me? You will most certainly gain money." He looked straight at her, "because I was once in your shoes, kid. And someone did the same for me." She titled her head slightly, "You?" "Yes. There is a far off kingdom called Longsdale. Have you heard of it?" "Yes, When I was in study. It is quite a large kingdom." "'tis. The castle there was once what I called home. I ran away, though. Now I run around to different Kingdoms doing odd jobs." "Seems fun!" she said, now interested. "Sometimes. Sometimes they're just strange. Only a week ago someone asked me to kill their pet goat for jumping on them." Snow giggled, "I'm glad I don't live in that kingdom." The boy smiled, "My name is Marcus by the way." "Very nice to meet you, Marcus." "and you as well." he paused, "Snow, how would you like to travel with me? I certainly need the help." Her eyes grew wide, "Of course I'll help. You just saved my life!" He smiled, "We've got to get moving then."
